Lydia Vilppu Architect

This project was a ground-up new construction, 1500 sf two story house and studio in the Hollywood Hills. The client was an artist on a limited budget with very specific live/work objectives.  The building is designed to maximize the usable space between the street and an 80 year old Magnolia tree. The choice of of wood, the foundation system, the windows, the shape of the building and the strategically oriented views were all design choices driven by a desire to maximize natural light and harmonize with the presence of the old tree.
